Prayer of the Heliotrope

by Pete Fosco

/

about

another one from the december 2018 dayton KY lodge sessions recorded by john hoffman. 15 mins of slow-motion electric guitar looped sludge and spiraling trails of smoke up into heaven, new beginnings, plants as living changing beings and our need to slow down, seeing work as a meditative practice. inspired by the Prayer of the Heliotrope by Proclus the Neoplatonist which states “Each thing prays according to the rank it occupies in nature, and sings the praise of the leader of the divine series to which it belongs, a spiritual or rational or physical or sensuous praise; for the heliotrope moves to the extent that it is free to move, and in its rotation, if we could hear the sound of the air buffeted by its movement, we should be aware that it is a hymn to its king, such as it is within the power of the plant to sing.” also a passage by the same name in the book Alone With the Alone by Henry Corbin. photo by Heather Marie Fosco.
“Stay away from anything
that obscures the place it is in.
There are no unsacred places;
there are only sacred places
and desecrated places.”
